What Is A Slab Leak?

It is a leak in one of the water pipes running within or below the concrete floor in your home.

Why Do I Have A Leak?

In our opinion, based on inspecting 1000’s of leaking lines, the leaks are primarily the result of a reaction between our drinking water and the copper pipes which causes internal pitting corrosion. The pitting corrosion eventually eats away a place in the pipe wall allowing a burst to happen.

How Do You Find The Leak?

Contact your AirKote Associate Plumber for leak detection assistance.  They will utilize modern electronic equipment for leak detection and pipe tracing

How Do You Fix The Leak?

That depends on the location of the leak in the pipe system. If the leak is above the concrete foundation then your AirKote Associate Plumber can simply replace a section of the leaking pipe. If it is under the floor your AirKote Associate Plumber will schedule with AirKote®OC to fix the leak in place without damage to finished flooring.

What Will My Home Owner’s Insurance Policy Cover?

This depends on your insurance company and your adjuster. Generally you can expect your insurance company to cover the cost of the leak detection service, line access and isolation, dry out and restoration of your property to the condition before the leak occurred. The insurance companies will normally not cover the cost of the plumbing repair. Please note that we see exceptions to ALL of the above on a regular basis and insurance company responses will vary job to job with the same company and from company to company for the same problem. If you have an agent you can speak with without filing a claim then that is your best option for knowing what your coverage will be.

What Does It Cost To Find And Repair My Leak?

This depends entirely on where the leak is located and what repair method is utilized for the repair. Leaks located above the slab foundation are normally much less expensive to locate and repair than those in the slab. We suggest you contact your AirKote Associate Plumber for more information on this.

What Is AirKote® Epoxy Restoration?

Quite simply it is the best, most cost effective, solution for repairing leaking copper water lines below your floor. The process is less expensive and invasive in all circumstances except for very short re-routes. With a limited lifetime warranty and better than a 95% success rate it is the obvious choice for a single line repair.

How Long Does The Repair Take?

If the leak is located above the slab foundation then the repairs can be completed immediately upon location the leak. If the leak is in the concrete foundation then the repair can require up to three (3) visits to accomplish the isolation, AirKote® epoxy restoration and reinstatement of the pipe to service. If conditions prevent a quick repair your AirKote Associate Plumber may install a temporary bi-pass line so that you are not inconvenienced by the water being shut off. Your AirKote Associate Plumber will always work with you to meet your needs a well as they can.
